Last-minute surprise on waivers and a new goaltender officially arrives in Edmonton
We have a lot of action in the NHL today anyway, even if it's quieter with the Montreal Canadiens at the moment.
We notably had two transactions involving the Minnesota Wild (involving two defensemen) and there is also action on the waiver wire.
Firstly, goaltender Jack Campbell (5 million per season) was ignored.
To replace him, the Edmonton Oilers have called up goaltender Calvin Pickard, a 2nd round pick in 2010.

Pickard, 31, has a .940 save percentage in the AHL this season. In his NHL career, in 116 games, he has a .903 save percentage.
Finally, please note that the Pittsburgh Penguins have just placed forward Andreas Johnsson on unconditional waivers.
It's really a shame. He was very promising a few years ago, but today his NHL career would be over. (he is about to sign in Sweden)

47 points in 75 games in the AHL at 20 years old.
54 points in 54 games in the AHL at 21 years old.
43 points in 73 games in his rookie season in the NHL, on a third line.
And then, many experts had predicted his breakout and a production of nearly 60-65 points, but he only amassed 21 points in 43 games the following season.
He was then injured, traded, and we know the rest today.
