Last week, at the trade deadline, Tyler Bertuzzi became a Boston Bruins player. He already had one point, one assist, in his first game with his new team.
The new Bruins forward has also been noticed for other reasons than his performance on the ice. When he was given a two-minute suspension, many people noticed that his stick was a little strange. It didn't have a tip.
That's all it took for the player to be asked about it. He said he tried it last year for a few games and liked it. This season he has become accustomed to playing with this type of stick.
The reason for this very sparse stick: laziness. Bertuzzi admits to being lazy and not wanting to deal with his sticks. Here's what he said in an interview from 2020:
"It's easy, it's fast, and it has a good grip. I'm lazy when it comes to tape, so when I found out this product was available, I took to it right away." - Tyler Bertuzzi
This is very reminiscent of the situation earlier this season with Juraj Slafkovsky. The young CH prospect was only placing tape on the end of his blade.
It finally took Brendan Gallagher to get involved in order for the young man to tape his stick properly. It all led, a few days later, to his first NHL goal.
