Mike Hoffman's contract bought out by the Montreal Canadiens? A drastic solution discussed by analysts

Canadiens forward Mike Hoffman watched last night's game against the Nashville Predators from the press box.

In fact, number 68 was left out for the third time in four games and it seems more and more obvious that he is no longer part of Kent Hughes' plans. Unfortunately, his predecessor, Marc Bergevin, gave Hoffman a three-year deal in the summer of 2021 and let's just say that his offensive production is far from meeting expectations.

He only had 12 points in 29 games this season and despite the organization's best efforts to move him to another team, it seems that his value is not very good throughout the NHL.

What if Kent Hughes bought out his contract at the end of the season?


As reported by Nicolas Desrosiers of Marqueur.com, this solution was discussed on the On Jase podcast on RDS.ca.

Benoit Brunet, Yanick Lévesque and Martin Lemay, mentioned that if Hoffman's contract was bought out at the end of the season, the Habs would save $3.3 million of the $4.5 million remaining in the final year of the number 68's contract.

However, the organization would only have $1.67 million more on the payroll for next season, but it should be mentioned that the salary cap will increase next year.

Since no team seemed to show interest in the Habs' forward since the beginning of the season, perhaps Hughes will have no choice but to buy out his contract, unless Hoffman breaks through and starts scoring goals galore.

Let's just say that with the work ethic he has since the beginning of his NHL career, the Canadiens fans don't have much hope for him anymore.
