The Blackhawks have made a huge trade offer to Hughes to acquire Ivan Demidov
In an effort to unite Ivan Demidov, Connor Bedard, and Artyom Levshunov, the Chicago Blackhawks made a big trade offer to Kent Hughes.
Last week, the reputable Pierre LeBrun reported that the Hawks went "all out" on the draft floor by making a huge offer to the Columbus Blue Jackets for their 4th overall pick.
The goal was to draft Ivan Demidov, directly ahead of the Montreal Canadiens.
« Could have been fireworks at the top of the draft tonight. Hearing that the Blackhawks offered next year's 1st Rd pick, unprotected, plus another pick, in return for the fourth overall pick. Believe it came pretty close but the Blue Jackets passed. They really love Cayden Lindstrom and couldn't pass up taking him»
- Pierre LeBrun Well, we have just learned that this same offer was also valid for the 5th overall pick of the Montreal Canadiens (obviously because Demidov was still available).
The Blackhawks really wanted Ivan Demidov!
The key element here is the UNPROTECTED 2025 first-round pick, meaning the possibility of it being the 1st or 2nd overall pick in the 2025 draft.
Either way, we are extremely happy that both Montreal and Columbus turned down this enticing offer from Chicago.
Ivan Demidov is now a Montreal Canadien, and it's incredible.
And you, would you have accepted it?
«Wow, that would've really made me think if I were CBJ, Blackhawks will most likely be a lottery team again next year, not out of the question they're selecting 1st OA in 2025!»
- NHL Watcher
In the end, all's well that ends well for the Habs, but wow! It really would have created some major fireworks in the Sphere of Las Vegas.
Honestly, as I write this, I'd take Ivan Demidov over the 2nd overall pick in 2025 anyway.
