In connection with the upcoming trade involving Patrik Laine, the Blue Jackets have made an announcement, and it's significant for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.

Their general manager, Don Waddell, clearly wanted to shake things up, and he made some major announcements today.

He made one regarding his 4th overall pick.

And he made one regarding his young forward Patrik Laine.

The Blue Jackets are in discussions about a trade involving Patrik Laine, and they have made an announcement related to the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program

Here's what Waddell mentioned.

«General Manager Don Waddell stated that Patrik Laine is still part of the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program, but he expects the doctors to give the green light soon'.

"Teams that have spoken to us (about a trade) want to talk to him before finalizing a transaction."

Teams can only talk to Laine if he is cleared.»

- Remarks by Don Waddell reported by Columbus journalist Aaron Portzline

So, this is an ongoing situation.

Don Waddell says Patrik Laine could be removed from the assistance program «any day now.» - Journalist Mark Scheig

We will monitor this closely, but Waddell has outright confirmed that Patrik Laine has indeed played his last game with the Blue Jackets.

The new general manager added that ideally, he would like not to have to retain salary in Laine's trade.

More details will follow.
