The young forward Rutger McGroarty of the Winnipeg Jets is now the hot topic for the Montreal Canadiens.

He seems to have replaced the likes of Martin Necas and Trevor Zegras.

Elliotte Friedman has just confirmed that Kent Hughes is having serious discussions with the Jets about a trade involving McGroarty.

This is a story to follow closely.

Rutger McGroarty decides not to attend the Jets' development camp, marking the end of his time in Winnipeg

This is obviously a major development for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens, who are seriously trying to acquire him.

«This player who hasn't been traded yet might be the biggest surprise of the weekend. It will be very interesting to see what happens with him...»
- Eric Engels, Montreal journalist

«Rutger McGroarty will not be at the development camp next week, confirms Kevin Cheveldayoff.»
- Murat Ates, Winnipeg journalist

It seems to be a matter of "where" and "when" McGroarty will be traded.

Could Kent Hughes surprise us again after adding Ivan Demidov?

McGroarty, 20, was the 14th overall pick in 2022 (1st round). He is a 6-foot-1, 200-pound forward who amassed an incredible 52 points in 36 games this season in the NCAA.

He played for the University of Michigan and is ready to make the jump to the NHL immediately. He truly has the potential to become a solid top-6 forward very quickly.

Adding McGroarty, Michael Hage, and Ivan Demidov in a few days would be a complete game-changer for the future of the Montreal Canadiens.

The famous rebuild might finally be nearing completion!
