We have an update regarding the Columbus Blue Jackets and the trade market, and it will impact Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.

As just reported by the excellent Marco D'Amico, the Jackets have informed other teams that they are officially placing their first-round picks, 14th and 20th overall, on the trade market.
Naturally, this will have a direct impact on the Canadiens.

The Blue Jackets officially place their first-round picks on the trade market

This becomes an obstacle for Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton.
"Spoke about this on the podcast, but Columbus is another of the teams in the middle of the 1st round that have put their 1st rounders in play.

Makes things a little trickier for the Habs and potentially waters down the market on futures."

- Marco D'Amico
This has essentially been confirmed and directly announced by the Blue Jackets and their general manager, Don Waddell.
"General Manager Don Waddell didn't mince words when asked about his two first-round picks in the draft.

Are both available in a trade?

Yes. 100%."

- Via journalist Mark Scheig
Let's remember that the Canadiens hold the 16th and 17th overall picks, while the Blue Jackets hold the 14th pick in the 2025 NHL Draft as well as the 20th pick which they acquired from Minnesota in exchange for David Jiricek.
It'll be fascinating to watch!
More details to come.
