Major: a fifth player involved in the Dubois trade has recently been revealed and it is a big name
Connected to the Montreal Canadiens for months, even years, Pierre-Luc Dubois is reportedly on the brink of officially being traded to the Los Angeles Kings. All that remains before the trade is made official is for Dubois to sign a 8-year contract with Los Angeles.
As details of the trade trickle out, a new one has emerged today. A fifth player is now linked to this transaction:
"The Los Angeles Kings acquiring Dubois would invariably mean
Quinton Byfield being a part of the package."
- Eric Stephens
If we summarize the information revealed thus far, this is what the trade would look like.
Dubois is currently in negotiations to sign a contract extension with the LA Kings. If he and his agent come to an agreement, it would be a win for the team.
Among the names that have been included in trade discussions are Vilardi, Iafallo, Harkins and Byfield. Vilardi is a 23-year-old center from Ontario who recorded 41 points (23 goals) in 63 games this season with the Kings; he is a restricted free agency this summer and was drafted 11th overall in 2017, just ahead of
Nick Suzuki's 13th overall pick.
Iafallo is a 29-year-old winger who posted 36 points in 59 games this past season, on pace for 50 points over a full season; he is signed through 2025 at $4 million per year. Harkins, 26 years old, is a second round selection (47th overall) from 2015 who had an impressive 50 points in 44 games in the AHL this season (and 27 career NHL points).
Lastly, 20-year-old Byfield is a 6 foot 5 inch 220 pound center who amassed 15 points in 16 AHL games and 22 points in 53 NHL contests; he was drafted second overall in 2020 right after Alexis Lafrenière. With these four players involved in trade talks there could be other elements at play as well.
