A few hours after the announcement of the first official cuts by the Montreal Canadiens, another player is leaving.

While a new wave of players (including Joshua Roy, Filip Mesar, and Jacob Fowler) will immediately arrive with the Laval Rocket, a 6-foot-2 defenseman is departing.

Defenseman Tyler Wotherspoon leaves the Montreal Canadiens organization

See the official Rocket announcement on the matter:
"Good luck to Tyler Wotherspoon with the Barys Astana team in the KHL! Thank you for a great season in Laval!" - Rocket Laval
So, he is heading to the KHL!
"Barys has signed a unilateral contract with Tyler Wotherspoon, the agreement is for one season until May 31, 2026." - Barys Astana
Wotherspoon, 32 years old, is a 6-foot-2, 222-pound left-handed defenseman who was a 2nd-round pick of the Calgary Flames in 2011 (57th overall).
He collected 5 points in 30 National Hockey League games, with a -8 rating and four penalty minutes.
Last season, with the Laval Rocket, he recorded 18 points in 72 games (with a +19 rating) and was one of Pascal Vincent's pillars on defense.
He added 2 penalty minutes in seven AHL playoff games.
Names like David Reinbacher (upon his return from injury), Adam Engstrom, William Trudeau, and Marc Del Gaizo will share the workload to fill the minutes left vacant by Wotherspoon's departure.
Details to follow.
We join the Rocket and the Canadiens organization in wishing Tyler Wotherspoon the best of luck in the KHL.
