Experts already unanimously agree that Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens pulled off a steal in the fourth round of the 2025 Draft.

LJ Mooney should never have slipped all the way to the 113th overall pick (in the fourth round), but he simply fell because of his size, much like Lane Hutson did in 2022.
If Mooney had been listed at 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds, he surely would have been a first-round pick this past June - and probably even a high first-round pick.
Well, we already have big news for you!

LJ Mooney has already grown and filled out since the draft

This is huge, because it immediately boosts his value.
If the draft were held today, it's clear that Mooney would be selected much higher than 113th overall.
"Because according to the official website of the University of Minnesota, where Mooney will play this year, the forward now measures 5-foot-8 and weighs 165 pounds.

He has therefore grown an inch and added eight pounds since the draft." - DLC
"Kid grew an inch since the draft!

If I'm not mistaken, he was listed at 5'7, 157 lbs when he was drafted."
I really can't wait to see the kind of season LJ Mooney will have in the NCAA!
Please note that Mooney is the cousin of Utah Mammoth forward Logan Cooley, and that he recorded 28 points in 26 games last season with the US National Development Team (at just 18 years old).
He still has plenty of time to grow and fill out before reaching the NHL.
