Some young players from the Montreal Canadiens organization were in action last night. As part of the World Junior Summer Showcase (WJSS), Canada faced off against Finland, which meant Michael Hage went up against Aatos Koivu.
Hage was, of course, a 1st-round pick by the Montreal Canadiens in 2024 (21st overall), while Koivu was a 3rd-round pick by the Canadiens in 2024 (70th overall).
The two young forwards from the Canadiens organization even gave us quite an entertaining moment last night.
Things Got Heated Between Michael Hage and Aatos Koivu of the Montreal Canadiens During a Scuffle Between Canada and Finland
We love to see it! It shows the passion and competitiveness of these young players.
There were a few sequences in the game where things got intense between Koivu and Hage, notably during the following moment, when a scuffle broke out involving several Canadian and Finnish players.
It's worth noting that neither Hage nor Koivu started the scrum (you can see the end of it in the following video).
I'll say it again-this is all positive to see!
It's also worth noting that both Hage and Koivu made their mark on the scoresheet.
Koivu, in particular, is having an incredible tournament and is positioning himself very well to be selected for Team Finland for the upcoming World Junior Championship.
We're excited to see his development in the coming months, especially with TPS Turku in Finland's top league, where he recorded 8 points in 31 games last season.
