Montreal Canadiens officially release 2 players to free agency
The journey of two players has come to an end within the Montreal Canadiens organization, as announced by Kent Hughes, including that of a goaltender.
The first is Tanner Pearson, as we reported in recent days.
Tanner Pearson ne sera pas de retour à Montréal.
And the second, surprisingly, is goaltender Kasimir Kaskisuo, who performed very well with the Montreal Canadiens' AHL affiliate during the 2023-24 season.
Clearly, Kent Hughes wanted no part in a three-goalie situation with the Laval Rocket, and evidently, Connor Hughes is officially the new #4 goalie for the Canadiens.
It's unfortunate for Kaskisuo, who was well-liked by the fans and was expected to return.
End of the line for Tanner Pearson and Kasimir Kaskisuo within the Montreal Canadiens organization, as decided by Kent Hughes
Here is an excerpt from the DLC text.
«But with the recent signing of Connor Hughes, there were questions about the Canadiens' plan for Kaskisuo for the upcoming season.
The goaltender made things clear in his most recent video posted on YouTube.
The content creator openly admitted: he will not be returning to Laval, even though that was his goal. The Canadiens told him they want to go in a different direction, and with the acquisition of Hughes, it makes sense.» - Marc-Olivier Cook
This is what Kent Hughes conveyed to him, just as he did to Tanner Pearson.
Kaskisuo's objective now is to find a new position in North America, and we sincerely wish him the best.
He has certainly proven that he can be a good goaltender in the American Hockey League.
Kasimir Kaskisuo confirme confirme qu'il ne sera pas de retour à Laval.
Kaskisuo, 30 years old, 6 feet 3 inches tall, and weighing 194 pounds, concludes his time with a record of 7-4-0, a goals-against average of 2.90, and a save percentage of 0.909.
He truly helped the Rocket steady the ship in net mid-season, during a period when it was extremely challenging for Jakub Dobes and Strauss Mann.

Best of luck in the future, Kasimir!
