David Reinbacher is currently playing some very strong hockey with the Laval Rocket.

He is producing offensively, and his defensive game is also on point, as he carries a positive plus-minus rating this season. In fact, he has only been in the negative in three games.
This stable and consistent play must be doing him a world of good, especially after the turbulent years he has endured, during which injuries simply would not leave him alone.
On that subject, the young defenseman recently opened up to Nicolas Cloutier of TVA Sports and did not shy away from saying that he went through some very difficult moments.
"There were some dark moments," admits the Canadiens' fifth overall pick during a long conversation in a hallway at Place Bell in Laval.

"You end up telling yourself: what's going on?"

- David Reinbacher

A surprising veteran was there for David Reinbacher during his dark moments

In a candid admission, the Canadiens' fifth overall pick in the 2023 draft stated that the person who helped him the most, within the organization, to get through this ordeal was none other than Patrik Laine.
We recall that the Finnish forward was also injured in the very same game as Reinbacher, on September 30, 2024. Misfortune for both players gave rise to a beautiful friendship.
"He was there for me," Reinbacher recalls.

"Every day, we were together, the two injured guys. I respect him so much as a person. He cracked jokes and made sure I got my ass moving and put in the work. We trained as a duo.

You know, he's been through a lot himself. He told me his story and explained how he gets through difficult moments..."

- David Reinbacher

It's great to see a veteran helping a rookie, despite dealing with his own issues. Laine was not the only league veteran to support Reinbacher: Mike Matheson also played a major role.
Matheson made sure the young man smiled every day, which, along with discussions with coaches and other veterans, allowed him to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

David Reinbacher and Lane Hutson: friends for life

It wasn't only veterans who helped the defenseman significantly. Another young player, also a defenseman, played that role, and his name is Lane Hutson.
The chemistry between the two, on and off the ice, began during Reinbacher's first development camp with the Canadiens. It was as if they were made to play together. Even though they are not currently playing in the same lineup, the two still manage to find time to see each other, go out for dinner, or do an activity together.
Living in the same building certainly helps maintain that chemistry.
"We have a great relationship.

Sometimes it's a bit more complicated because we don't have the same schedule, but we're very close.

I hope we'll have a brilliant career together."

- David Reinbacher
This friendship and chemistry could lead to some very special things on the ice in the future.
