Cole Caufield imitated Patrik Laine at 10:30 this morning before the Canadiens' practice
The Montreal Canadiens' new forward, Patrik Laine, who is unfortunately injured, had a habit since the start of the camp.
A great habit.
He was consistently the first to hit the ice around 10:30 a.m., well before the official start of practice, to work on his shots.
Yes, Patrik Laine was truly determined to improve and have a big season in Montreal. Yes, he had an excellent work ethic.
Cole Caufield follows Patrik Laine's example and practices his one-timers well before regular practice
That being said, Laine seems to have inspired some to follow his lead, notably a certain Cole Caufield, who was the first on the ice today (in place of Patty Laine).
We love to see that! Inevitably, with Laine's long-term injury, there will be a bit more pressure on Caufield's shoulders, both as a scorer and on the power play.
We are really excited to see what kind of season Caufield will have, and with such determination and a strong work ethic, it looks promising.
Cole also commented on the injury of Laine this morning:
«We were all pumped up to have him (Patrik Laine) on our team. He's still with us in good spirits. Just gotta find ways to still be excited about us.. I think everybody knows that they gotta pull their own weight now & maybe more & make up for what we lost.»
«Obviously a really tough loss to lose a guy like that but everybody's got to step up.. I'm just gonna probably pick his brain now & talk to him off the ice & still find ways to learn from him.»

Speaking of Laine's injury, it is expected to be a 4 to 6 month absence for the big Finnish forward, according to journalist Stu Cowan:
There is hope to see him back in uniform this season and return in time to help the Habs in the playoff race at the end of the season (if there is indeed a playoff race).
Coming back to Caufield, how many goals do you see him scoring this season with his new number 13?
