Expectations around Patrik Laine have just been abruptly cooled, as Eric Engels does not expect to see him in uniform tomorrow against the Jets.

That completely changes the situation.
Kent Hughes took action earlier today by placing Samuel Blais on NHL waivers.
Many viewed Blais being placed on waivers as the unmistakable signal of an immediate return to the lineup for the No. 92 sniper.
However, the Sportsnet insider is pumping the brakes, stating that Laine will not play against his former team.
With the trade freeze set to begin tomorrow afternoon, all signs now point to Laine being traded in the coming hours.
At this stage, most experts say they would be very surprised to ever see Laine play another game for the Montreal Canadiens.
