Bettman and NHL Deliver Their Verdict on Canadiens After Fiery Referee Criticism
Following the comments made during the press conference in Edmonton by Cole Caufield, Brendan Gallagher, and Martin St-Louis, the NHL had a decision to make.
Everything indicated that (at the very least) Martin St-Louis would be sanctioned, possibly along with Caufield and Gallagher, since the NHL prohibits such harsh criticism of referees after a game.
Jon Cooper received a heavy fine last season for similar comments.
Anyway, this Saturday, we now have a verdict!
The NHL has decided to drop potential sanctions suggested for Martin St-Louis, Cole Caufield, and Brendan Gallagher
This is very surprising, but we love it!
As the guys from HFTV perfectly put it, it's as if the NHL realized that the players (and St-Louis) were actually right.
"No fines for the Habs last night eh? It's almost as if they were right." - HFTV
Let's recall that Gallagher mentioned the Oilers were good enough on their own and didn't need the referees' help to win.
As for Cole Caufield, he congratulated the referees on "their victory" against the Montreal Canadiens.
It's truly surprising that no sanctions were handed out-but we love it.
I'll say it again, but it's hard to believe Gary Bettman was proud seeing all that unfold over the last two nights, especially knowing that in other leagues like the KHL, referees can get banned for life for one mistake, as we reported earlier.
Indeed, more and more, it seems like the National Hockey League is admitting its mistake!
Let's hope things go better tonight in Vancouver!
