The young defenseman of the Montreal Canadiens, Arber Xhekaj, is probably not having the start to the season he had hoped for.
It doesn't seem to be working for him right now, but clearly, it's not due to a lack of the right attitude.
During a press conference a few minutes ago, a journalist simply asked him a question about the mistakes to be corrected collectively with the Montreal Canadiens.
The question was about the entire team, but Xhekaj decided to take all the responsibility on his shoulders, responding in the first person, and he showed solid humility.
That's a gesture of a leader.
Arber Xhekaj Harsh on Himself
See an excerpt from the report by RDS journalist Patrick Friolet on this subject.
Questioned this morning about the mistakes to be corrected collectively, Arber Xhekaj answered in the first person taking responsibility for his play.
«I need to be more engaged. I'm too in my own head. It makes me make unusual mistakes that hurt the team.»
Hats off to the Sheriff! It's a significant gesture, and it speaks volumes about his attitude and his winning mentality.
He didn't stop there.
»Arber Xhekaj was very honest when speaking to the media after practice today: «I'm not very happy with my play so far. I've been a bit inconsistent, so I need to fix that.. I feel like I'm a bit in my own head and not being myself..»
- Priyanta Emrith
»I think I need to get more involved.. I've been worrying about things I can't control, I've gotten into my own head, and I think I just need to let that go and play hockey..»
-Arber Xhekaj
I think he has a great understanding of the situation, and it's promising for what's to come.
We are not worried about Xhekaj. This is not the first time in his career that he has faced adversity, and he has always managed to come back stronger.
Xhekaj, aged 23, has accumulated 0 points in 5 games this season, with only two penalty minutes and a -4 rating.
And you, what would you do with the Sheriff?
