According to what the reputable Elliotte Friedman (Sportsnet) reports, Jonathan Huberdeau and the Calgary Flames are about to announce that they have signed a big contract extension. (long term)

More details to follow, but it puts an end to the rumors that he might be headed to Montreal next summer.

Hearing Flames and Jonathan Huberdeau are putting the finishing touches on an eight-year, $84 million extension. 8 x $10.5 million.

Let's remember that Huberdeau was going to become an unrestricted free agent next summer. He had the option to become a free agent, offer his services to all 32 NHL teams and sign the contract of his choice, but he just settled with the Calgary Flames.

Remember also that the Calgary Flames traded Matthew Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers earlier this summer for a huge return that includes Jonathan Huberdeau, MacKenzie Weegar, Cole Schwindt and a 1st round pick in 2025.

With this signing, it's a very big move for GM Brad Treliving (Calgary).
