The big rumor involving Sean Monahan has officially been confirmed by two insiders and it's sad
It seems that he has unseated Jake Allen, probably because he generates much more interest in the NHL, but the Montreal Canadiens forward keeps coming back in trade rumors.
He is now the first name to watch in Montreal for a trade.
Two insiders have even gone so far as to guarantee that he will be traded by the deadline by Kent Hughes, no less.
The rumor is confirmed: Kent Hughes will try to trade Monahan
Monahan, 29, who will be an unrestricted free agent next summer, would be (according to Pierre LeBrun's sources) Plan B for many teams involved in the Elias Lindholm sweepstakes.
Basically, as soon as Lindholm is traded, everyone will turn to Kent Hughes for Sean Monahan, which will surely drive up the bidding.
LeBrun mentions the names of these four teams as potential destinations for the Canadiens' forward: the Colorado Avalanche, the Winnipeg Jets, the Boston Bruins, and the New York Rangers.
According to LeBrun, other teams will quickly join the list.
The rumor that Sean Monahan will bring a first-round pick to the CH is also true, according to Pierre LeBrun
"Pierre LeBrun on Insider Trading says his sources believe that Sean Monahan could bring the Habs a first-round pick, especially if they retain 50% of his salary.
He says that teams will wait 2 to 3 weeks before getting serious and that Monahan's market will be impacted by Elias Lindholm."
A big file to watch over the next few weeks for the Habs.
Monahan has 35 points in 49 games this season, including 13 goals, and he earns a modest $1.985 million per year on the market.
