As we reported earlier today, the Calgary Flames have finally fired Darryl Sutter.
Now that it's done, and now that he's no longer his head coach, Jonathan Huberdeau has shared his true feelings about some of Sutter's actions.
We highly recommend listening to the full interview with Huberdeau. (and Bob Hartley)
"Bob Hartley asked Jonathan Huberdeau what he and the other Flames veterans thought of Darryl Sutter's criticism of Jakob Pelletier. Here is his answer..." - Via BPM Sports. See in particular what they had to say about "the Jakob Pelletier case":
"Why say that to the media and then go see the kid to tell him he played well?"
"We were all disappointed. Especially for a young kid who comes in and doesn't need that as a young player. He just wants to play well for himself and the team. In the media, we were all pretty surprised. We were saying 'That's Darryl' «
Huberdeau spoke at an end-of-season press conference and essentially threw Sutter under the bus:
"...It really didn't click between me and Darryl last year. There were a lot of factors. There was a big difference in points between my last two years. And the style of play he wanted to play, it didn't fit my style of game.
Having a new coach is going to help my game and my confidence, too."
You can also find the link to the full interview above.
The players were therefore not happy with some of Sutter's decisions.
