Three players clear waivers as a new name hits the list today

The NHL waiver wire has been very quiet over the past 24 hours, as none of the players placed on waivers the day before were claimed.
Insider Elliotte Friedman confirmed the news this afternoon.
That means defenseman Dakota Mermis (Toronto) as well as forwards Zach Aston-Reese and Brendan Gaunce (Columbus) were not claimed.
They are all expected to report to their respective AHL affiliates.
Attention now turns to the only new name placed on waivers today: Noah Philp.
The Carolina Hurricanes forward is now available to the league’s other 31 teams.
Philp, a 27-year-old center, has played 17 games this season split between the Edmonton Oilers and the Hurricanes.
He has recorded a total of 3 points (2 goals, 1 assist) and carries a minus-7 rating.
The 6-foot-3 forward was claimed by Carolina off waivers back in December, but his stint was short-lived.
The Montreal Canadiens should not be tempted by Noah Philp
Although Kent Hughes clearly wants to make moves, it would be surprising to see the Canadiens claim Philp.
Philp is just returning from injury (concussion) and has only appeared in two games with the Hurricanes.
With some players getting healthy again and young prospects needing ice time, adding a 27-year-old depth player doesn’t seem to fit the team’s current needs.
The Edmonton Oilers, however, could be interested in bringing back their former player to assign him to Bakersfield.
The Canadiens will likely pass when the claim window closes tomorrow at noon.
