Unfortunately, the tragic death of Johnny Gaudreau now places the Blue Jackets' organization in a situation where the team's general manager, Don Waddell, will need to add players to his roster, as the Jackets are currently about $1.7 million under the salary floor.
This is why a journalist from The Hockey News, Karine Haines, suggested that Kent Hughes might be able to help his counterpart at the Blue Jackets.
As reported by the site HABSolumentFan, Haines mentioned four Canadiens forwards whom Hughes could potentially send to the Blue Jackets: Brendan Gallagher, Joel Armia, Christian Dvorak, and Josh Anderson.
This is an opportunity for the Kent Hughes - Jeff Gorton duo.
While it is unlikely that Gallagher and Anderson will leave the Canadiens this season due to their contracts, it's a different story with Armia and Dvorak, who will both be unrestricted free agents next summer.
In fact, according to some experts, Dvorak's name is circulating around the NHL because, despite his numerous injuries over the past few years, he could still be of good use to a team looking for depth at the center position. Moreover, he likely won't return to the Canadiens for the 2025-2026 season.
