Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens were reportedly in the race, along with the Washington Capitals, to acquire Pierre-Luc Dubois this week.
Wow! We really didn't see that one coming.
It was the renowned insider Elliotte Friedman, via his very popular podcast, who just made this statement.
«I am certain that the Washington Capitals were not the only ones in the mix to acquire Pierre-Luc Dubois.»
Dubois, who earns $8.5 million per year for another seven seasons, interested two other teams according to them.
«Friedman does not know exactly who the two potential teams are, but he hinted to Jeff Marek. The latter mentioned the Bruins, who need help at center, and Friedman thinks he is right.
And that's when the Canadiens' name came up. Friedman mentions that he has not confirmed this throughout the league and that it's his belief, but he still feels that the Habs are one of the two interested teams.»

Friedman does not know what it would have cost the Habs, but we imagine that Kent Hughes would have wanted to complete another «Sean Monahan-like» deal. We must admit that it worked extremely well for him in the past.
Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens tried to acquire Pierre-Luc Dubois this week?
On second thought, it makes sense.
The Canadiens seriously tried to acquire Dubois from the Winnipeg Jets, at a very high price, just a year ago.
Now that Dubois could be acquired entirely for free, it makes sense to imagine that Montreal was in the mix.
In short, it was ultimately the Washington Capitals who acquired the services of Pierre-Luc Dubois, but imagine how much buzz it would have created if Montreal had made this acquisition this week.
Would Kent Hughes have asked the Los Angeles Kings to retain some salary? Would he have tried to include a Christian Dvorak or a Josh Anderson in the trade? We will probably never know, but it's very interesting!
