For some time now, several rumors have suggested that Sidney Crosby could be traded by the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The veteran, who is currently representing Canada at the World Hockey Championship, is at a crossroads in his career, and it's fair to assume he'd like to chase one last Stanley Cup.
That said, his name is increasingly being linked to the Montreal Canadiens, and it's not far-fetched to think that Sidney Crosby could wear the Habs uniform to finish his career.
Aside from the Canadiens, the other team that could very well welcome number 87 is the Colorado Avalanche, where he would play alongside his fellow Nova Scotian, Nathan MacKinnon.

Are the Montreal Canadiens the Favorites to Land Sidney Crosby?

However, a well-known journalist actually believes the Canadiens have an edge over the Avalanche if Sidney Crosby ends up leaving Pittsburgh.
During a recent appearance on 98.5 FM, Arpon Basu, a journalist for The Athletic, mentioned a key advantage the Canadiens have over Colorado.
"If you can go get Sidney Crosby, you go get Sidney Crosby.

It's a no-brainer.

It's Montreal or Denver, and Denver has very little ammunition in terms of young players and draft picks."

- Arpon Basu
This is quite a message being sent to Kent Hughes and Canadiens fans by Arpon Basu in the Sidney Crosby situation.
Let's just say the Canadiens' extremely promising future is a strong selling point to attract Crosby to town.
At 37 years old, Sidney Crosby recorded 91 points in 80 games this season, including 33 goals, and he has a career total of 1,687 points (625 goals) in 1,352 NHL games.
His contract, paying him $8.7 million per year, is valid until the summer of 2027.
After that, he will become an unrestricted free agent, free to sign wherever he chooses.
