Regarding the rumored potential trade involving Patrik Laine and the Montreal Canadiens, a player agent believes the matter could be settled.
Following the hiring of Pascal Vincent within the organization as head coach of the Laval Rocket, it could resolve the issue.
According to player agent David Ettedgui, the Laine-Vincent relationship was not pretty.
«With the appointment of Pascal Vincent, I highly doubt that the Habs will continue discussions with Columbus for Laine. If they hired him in Laval, it's because they value him. The Canadiens will take Vincent at his word. Laine-Vincent was not pretty.»
- David Ettedgui
This is the same source that mentioned a few weeks ago that Kent Hughes and the Habs were seriously active in a trade involving Patrik Laine.
Patrik Laine ignored by the Canadiens because of Pascal Vincent?
That's what Ettedgui seems to believe, so this matter could already be resolved.
It remains to be seen, but let's remember that Patrik Laine requested a trade from the Blue Jackets, and they still intend to accommodate his request.
Kent Hughes is among the few NHL general managers who currently have the necessary cap space to take on Laine's contract.
Patrik Laine, 26 years old, 6 feet 5 inches and 215 pounds, was the second overall pick in 2016. He has amassed 9 points in 18 games this season, 52 points in 55 games last season, and 56 points in 56 games the season before.
In case you missed it, the Blue Jackets GM made a big statement regarding the Laine saga earlier today:
