Hughes and the Canadiens about to meet a top draft prospect in the next hours
We have just learned that Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens will meet with an elite young talent, just hours before the 2024 draft.
This is an interesting development because every minute counts for the Canadiens' management at the moment.
One might think that Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton are not very interested in the young defenseman Anton Silayev, who is a left-hander and is expected to go 3rd overall with the Anaheim Ducks, but think again.
Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens call up Anton Silayev for a major meeting
Silayev is truly a unique specimen.
He is a 6-foot-7, 215-pound defenseman (at only 18 years old), and he has incredible skating skills. Some call him a "unicorn."
Seeing a 6-foot-7 player with such good skating skills is indeed extremely rare.
In short, ahead of the annual draft which will take place in Las Vegas this Friday, and in anticipation of their 5th overall pick, the Canadiens' management will indeed meet the giant Silayev again.
Interesting.
According to information from David Pagnotta, in the coming hours, Silayev will meet with the Montreal Canadiens as well as other teams with a top-10 pick:
"This means that the Canadiens' management will have a second meeting with him. Could they seriously consider him if forwards Ivan Demidov and Cayden Lindstrom are no longer available at the Canadiens' pick?"
- Marco Normandin A case to follow.
Anton Silayev, 18 years old, is a 6-foot-7, 215-pound left-handed defenseman who scored 11 points in 63 games last season in the KHL. (37 penalty minutes)
He added 2 points in 5 playoff games.
