A Completed Trade Between the Canadiens and Devils Just Took an Unexpected Turn
Obviously, with the Devils' summer acquisition of
Jacob Markstrom, it made that condition almost impossible.
It seemed nearly impossible for the Canadiens to ultimately receive another second-round pick.
However, the situation has just changed.

We shouldn't celebrate the misfortune of others too much, but as the excellent Elliotte Friedman has just pointed out, Markstrom's injury could change a lot for the Montreal Canadiens.

One thing to note: if Jake Allen plays 40 games, the Canadiens will receive a second-round pick in the next draft.
Otherwise, it'll be a third-round pick. (He's currently at 15 games.)»
