Clues are accumulating and it really seems like things are getting active behind the scenes in the NHL trade market. And Kent Hughes seems to be very popular.
Last night, on TSN, insider Darren Dreger released major information by stating that
Sean Monahan will be traded by the trade deadline. (unless there's a huge surprise)
There would be a 'deal' between Monahan and Hughes in this sense.
So the next question is where Monahan would be traded.
On this matter, we also have something new.
Sean Monahan traded to the Winnipeg Jets?
The renowned David Pagnotta mentions that a team is already seriously being considered for a potential trade involving Monahan, and it's precisely the Winnipeg Jets.
Moreover, they just lost their big center player,
Mark Scheifele, to an injury. They have a need.
The Jets, who are at the top of the NHL overall standings, are aiming for high honors and they could certainly benefit from a Monahan. (and they have young players as well as draft picks to make a good trade offer to Hughes)
Pagnotta added that discussions for a transaction might be happening right now between Montreal and Winnipeg, so much so that the Jets sent two scouts to yesterday's game at the Bell Centre. Interesting!
Lots of information here:
And you, what would you ask in exchange for Monahan from the Jets? A first-round pick?
Based on Kent Hughes' history, we might look to his trade involving
Tyler Toffoli. (traded for
Emil Heineman and a first-round pick)
Monahan, 29 years old, has accumulated 24 points in 41 games this season and is earning only $1.9 million.
