Major: four Montreal Canadiens players have just been placed on the trade market, including a surprising forward?
While the Montreal Canadiens seem unfortunately to already be out of the NHL's 2024 playoff picture, General Manager Kent Hughes will have big decisions to make, especially in the trade market.
As popular TSN analyst Eric Macramalla mentions, four players in particular could soon leave via trade.
Four players already on the trade market in Montreal?
"It's Groundhog Day. As the Canadiens sit at the bottom of the standings in terms of expected goals and scoring chances, while only being ahead of the Senators in the Atlantic (with the Sens having 5 games in hand), it seems justified to trade Monahan, Dvorak, Allen, and Anderson." - Macramalla
Unsurprisingly, Dvorak, Allen, and Anderson are always among those likely to leave, but it's surprising to see Monahan's name included here.
We really believe he could help the CH in the medium/long term.
In short, he continues.
"And of all the players on the Canadiens, Sean Monahan has the highest trade value. It's better to trade him soon to avoid any risk of injury." - Macramalla Do you agree with him? It's true that considering his salary of $1,985,000, Monahan is really very attractive for a contending team.
This season, Monahan has scored 13 points, including six goals, in 21 games, while mainly playing as the center of the third line, alongside Brendan Gallagher and Tanner Pearson. So, he has higher potential than that.
With 21 games played, Martin St-Louis's team only has 20 points in the bank, with a record of 9-10-2, which places them seventh in the Atlantic Division, so it's certain that this puts Hughes more in the position of a seller.
Anyway, this will be a big file to follow in the coming weeks.
