We already have our first surprise of the 2025-26 season, in the NHL waivers process.

The Utah Mammoth has just announced, via journalist Cole Bagley, that goalie Connor Ingram will not report to the 2025 training camp.
The plan is to eventually put him on NHL waivers.
"Connor Ingram will NOT attend training camp as he and the team work to find him a new home.

Armstrong says they plan to eventually place him on waivers."

- Cole Bagley
This is interesting for two reasons.
First, because the Utah Mammoth is among the teams seriously interested in signing goalie Carter Hart.
"Also of note, Utah is among the teams interested in Carter Hart."

- David Pagnotta

So we can now wonder if Carter Hart will officially sign with the Mammoth.
And second, it's interesting for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.

Connor Ingram eventually placed on NHL waivers: good news for keeping Kaapo Kahkonen with the Montreal Canadiens

As Kent Hughes himself mentioned, the Habs fear losing Kahkonen on NHL waivers if he is sent down in favor of Jakub Dobes (that's the reason for signing Kevin Mandolese to a professional tryout).
Basically, if Dobes indeed wins the number 2 goalie spot in Montreal, Kahkonen would have to be placed on waivers before joining the Laval Rocket.
He was surely going to be the most interesting goalie on waivers-but not anymore!
The teams that had their eye on Kahkonen will now clearly turn their attention to Connor Ingram, which is good news for the Montreal Canadiens.
This really increases the chances of seeing Kahkonen pass through waivers freely.
In any case, it's the first very big piece of news in the NHL this week!
Ingram, 28 years old, has a career save percentage of .902 in the NHL. Over the past two seasons, he has played 72 games with Utah/Arizona.
