The National Hockey League has officially postponed a game due to extreme weather conditions.

It involves the matchup that was scheduled for tonight between the Los Angeles Kings and the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Mother Nature has stepped in regarding the game that was supposed to be played today by the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena.
"The NHL has postponed tonight's Los Angeles/Columbus game at Nationwide Arena due to severe winter weather.

The game will be played March 9."

A rare official statement from Gary Bettman and the National Hockey League

The winter storm hitting Ohio is so severe that the safety of fans and players has become the absolute priority.
This isn't just a light snowfall, but a major system that is completely paralyzing travel across the region.
The league's hockey operations department had no choice but to wave the white flag in the final minutes. It's safe to say we really don't see this very often.
The Los Angeles Kings will therefore have to wait before wrapping up their road trip in this part of the schedule.
It's a logical decision but always a frustrating one for fans who had already purchased their tickets weeks in advance.
The game has officially been rescheduled for March 9, according to insider Chris Johnston.

The Columbus Blue Jackets will have to manage a condensed schedule in March

You really have to wonder how the Blue Jackets will handle this addition to an already exhausting March, following the Olympic Games.
For the Kings, it becomes a major logistical headache as they are in the middle of a race for a favorable playoff position.
Travel between California and the East Coast is draining, and this extra trip in March will be exhausting.
The equipment staff now has to repack tons of gear to leave Columbus as quickly as possible before the airport shuts down.
The salary cap and emergency call-ups could also be affected by this unexpected schedule change.
A postponed game may seem minor, but it disrupts the physical preparation of athletes who hate seeing their routine broken.
Coaches will now have to adjust tomorrow's practices to make up for the lack of competition tonight.
Hopefully, the weather will be kinder on March 9 for this matchup that could prove decisive in the final standings.
