Especially when compared to the rest of the teams in the National Hockey League, the Ottawa Senators have a relatively small number of European players.
It's probably a coincidence, but their general manager, Pierre Dorion, has just unnecessarily put his foot in his mouth on this issue.
He may have said too much about what he really thinks of Europeans.
A statement from the Senators' GM that doesn't go over well
Some fans have a certain prejudice against European players, a bias that suggests these players are less hardworking and less passionate.
Is it true that the effort and attitude of some players from across the ocean can be questionable at times? It's up to you to judge, but regardless.
When it comes from a barroom manager, it's dubious, but when it comes from the general manager of an NHL club, it becomes very sensitive.
Appearing on The Cam & Strick Podcast, Dorion flatly stated this:
Tim Stutzle has character for a European. - Pierre Dorion
We don't want to make this bigger than it really is either, but it's certainly information to keep in mind for the future, when it comes time to analyze, or predict, the Sens' decisions.
