We were treated to a rather unusual scene on Sunday morning, live from the Montreal Canadiens' practice in Brossard.

At practice, Jayden Struble clearly had some energy and/or frustration to burn off.
A clip is circulating everywhere on social media, originating from a post by DansLesCoulisses. It shows Struble hitting a training dummy with an intensity that makes people laugh.
The joke came quickly: does he think it's Brad Marchand?
The dummy never stood a chance, and it made for a pretty hilarious moment on an otherwise busy day for the Canadiens.

An uncertain future for Jayden Struble with the Montreal Canadiens

Struble is also a very clear profile on paper. He is listed at 6 feet and 207 pounds. He was drafted 46th overall in 2019 by the Montreal Canadiens, and he is competing with Arber Xhekaj for regular minutes.
This season, he has played 35 games, with no goals and 6 assists for 6 points. He also has 36 penalty minutes, a total that fits his identity.
It's no surprise to see him letting his shoulders do the talking at practice, even as a joke. I really get the feeling that behind the joke, there was a bit of frustration he needed to express.
In his NHL career, the numbers are starting to add up. He has totaled 147 games, with 29 points-5 goals and 24 assists. He also has 145 penalty minutes, a total that reminds you he plays hard.
His last two seasons are also strangely similar. In 2023-24, he played 56 games and recorded 10 points, with 57 penalty minutes. In 2024-25, again 56 games, with 13 points and 52 penalty minutes.
With the way Arber Xhekaj has been playing recently, combined with the return of Kaiden Guhle, it will be very difficult for Struble to carve out a regular spot in Martin St-Louis' lineup.
He is in a situation similar to that of his "sparring partner" in the clip, Samuel Montembeault, and in the middle of a major internal battle.
