We often say hockey is a game of mistakes, and we got a perfect example of that last night during the Montreal Canadiens game.

Two major mistakes were made, and they completely changed the look of last night's matchup against the Utah Mammoth.
It's clear this was noticed across the NHL and that the league is starting to take notes, because with T.J. Luxmore, this is starting to get repetitive.
First, we're talking about what happened on the Mammoth's second goal:
"Insanely obvious interference, Utah then takes the puck the other way and scores.

Unbelievable."

- Matt Drake
That one was absolutely unbelievable and it really could have hurt the Montreal Canadiens.

Mistakes that sparked discussion during the game between the Montreal Canadiens and the Utah Mammoth

A second major mistake sparked league-wide discussion last night and will absolutely be reviewed by NHL officials.
It concerns the "shot clock."
I don't know what happened with shot tracking last night at the Bell Centre, but it was ridiculous.
It may seem trivial, but in the era of sports betting and hockey pools, it's far from trivial.
There's quite a bit of money involved.
And it can even have a significant impact on the stats of a goaltender like Samuel Montembeault.
For a good part of the first period, it honestly looked like shots weren't being counted at all.
"Not sure what's up with the shot clock, but Utah should have four so far..."

- Eric Engels
While Utah had at least four free, clear, obvious shots, the "shot clock" showed only one shot... and it stayed like that for part of the game.
Instead of 25 saves on 27 shots, Samuel Montembeault probably could have finished with 33 saves on 35 shots or something like that.
I'll repeat myself, but this really isn't as trivial as it may look.
