Once again, something very special happened last night at Toronto Pearson Airport involving young forward Ivan Demidov.

Dozens of fans and journalists showed up at Toronto Pearson International Airport to welcome Demidov to Canadian soil.
While some people found it strange or unusual, the young Demidov doesn't seem to share that opinion.
Another interesting point to note is that Demidov didn't speak to anyone upon his arrival.
We assumed it was simply because he had just completed a 10-hour flight and, for completely understandable reasons, wanted to take his time settling in.. But there's another reason.

The Canadiens directly asked Ivan Demidov not to speak to anyone at the airport

Even though it would have been totally understandable if Demidov had chosen not to speak himself, know that the decision didn't even come from him.
It was the Montreal Canadiens organization that made that request.
"The Canadiens knew this was a strong possibility (there's a reason they had planned ahead with a large security team), even by sending him to Toronto.

In fact, it was the Habs who asked him not to speak last night: they want it to happen during a press conference.

That allows better control of the message and eases the pressure on the young player."

So, that explains everything.
One thing's for sure, no matter what, he's in for an absolutely incredible welcome at the Bell Centre next Monday against the Chicago Blackhawks, if that's indeed the day of his debut with the Canadiens.
