The NHL added one layer too many in the Brad Marchand file.

On Wednesday, it was learned that Marchand would not be suspended for his action on Mike Matheson, in overtime against the Florida Panthers.
On Thursday, it also became clear that there wouldn't even be a fine, since nothing was announced. Two minutes on the ice, then everyone moves on. The problem is the message being sent.
You can think it's fine that the penalty was called, but when the league closes the file entirely, it sounds like a free pass. And meanwhile, in Montreal, people are still wondering what condition Matheson is in after a hit to the head.

Brad Marchand doesn't even receive the slightest fine: Gary Bettman and the NHL turn a blind eye

The cherry on top is that he was named among the stars of Tuesday's game and was honored by the National Hockey League, in a 3-2 win by the Montreal Canadiens.
On the other side, Matheson, 31, has just signed a five-year contract extension worth $30 million, or $6 million per season. This year, he has played 37 games, with 18 points and an average of nearly 25:00 per game.
When a player like that is hit and his health becomes a topic of concern, it should never end with zero additional consequences, especially after a hit to the head that could easily have been avoided.
What remains today is concern. The league made its choice, and Montreal doesn't feel like it was heard.
No, he didn't even get a fine. What is your opinion on this?
Personally, I consider this extremely disappointing coming from the National Hockey League, and it is certainly bad news for Matheson to learn that the league tolerates this.
With the NHL turning a blind eye, the Canadiens will likely have to get their revenge on the ice the next time these two teams meet.
It won't have to wait long, as both teams will face each other on January 8 at the Bell Centre.
