The Canadiens reportedly acquired another future top-6 NHL forward, according to Billy Ryan with Sawyer
The Montreal Canadiens just revealed several interesting pieces of information for the organization's fans with the release of the draft documentary.
This allows us to learn more about the players acquired by the Habs in the 2024 draft, including, of course, Ivan Demidov and Michael Hage, but also other more underrated names.
Among these more underrated names is forward Logan Sawyer, who was selected in the third round by Montreal (78th overall pick).
In the eyes of Nick Bobrov and Canadiens scout Billy Ryan, Logan Sawyer has the potential to become a top-6 NHL forward.
Could the Canadiens Have Possibly Acquired Another Top-6 Forward with Logan Sawyer? Nick Bobrov and Billy Ryan Believe So
What are Bobrov and Ryan basing such high expectations for Sawyer on?
Well, it should be noted that Sawyer is an elite lacrosse player.
He could possibly be the "Connor Bedard" of lacrosse, but he decided to focus more on his career as a hockey player in recent months.
Sawyer has always been considered one of the best hockey players in his age group in Toronto, at the same level as Michael Hage, but his success in lacrosse led him to play in the BCHL, a lower-level hockey league.
As a result, Sawyer completely flew under the radar of other NHL teams.
If he had gone to play in the OHL, would he have been a first-round pick? We will never know, but Nick Bobrov seems very proud of his pick.
"With Logan Sawyer, he was competing with Michael Hage growing up with all these young Toronto players. They were an elite duo. Then he started playing lacrosse in the spring and summer, while Hage played hockey year-round.
So, you know, we could be getting one of the best players in Toronto in this age group, who turned out to be an elite lacrosse player, who plays a lot of lacrosse and recently decided to go to the BCHL.
He took a different path, but at 6'2", in Providence, with that brain and 'dual threat ability,' he's a player who sees the game and has the skills of a top-6 forward."
- Nick Bobrov
We love it.
In one season in the BCHL, Logan Sawyer scored 19 points in 20 games.
During the playoffs, we're talking about a total of 15 points, including 7 goals, in just 12 games. He also won the "MVP" title at the spring tournament.
"As for Sawyer, from what I saw during this tournament, I think he has pretty high potential thanks to his size, skills, and playmaking abilities. He's not afraid to play physically and throw hits."
- Billy Ryan
So, he's a name to keep in mind for Montreal Canadiens fans.
