Among the targets for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens to fill the second-line center role, one Stars forward keeps coming up.
We're obviously talking about Matt Duchene, who is an excellent second-line center and who actually came very close to signing with the Canadiens in the past.
In the summer of 2019, Duchene was one of the most sought-after unrestricted free agents on the market and agreed to meet with only two teams: the Nashville Predators and the Montreal Canadiens.
Could the summer of 2025 finally be the right time for Duchene and the Canadiens?
It looks like the answer is no..

Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton will clearly need to look elsewhere.
Matt Duchene, 34 years old, is a 5-foot-11, 212-pound centerman, who was selected 3rd overall by the Colorado Avalanche in 2009 and has recorded 891 points in 1,138 career NHL games.
This season with the Stars, he posted an impressive 82 points in 82 games, including 30 goals, after tallying 65 points the previous season.
Also, as mentioned earlier today, the Stars are reportedly shopping star forward Jason Robertson and have already revealed their asking price:
