Last night, Montreal Canadiens forward Alex Newhook suffered an injury that unfortunately appears to be serious.
And speaking of people willing to comment on the subject, that's exactly what Dr. Harjas Grewal did as well.
A doctor weighs in on the injury suffered by Montreal Canadiens forward Alex Newhook
Here's what he had to say:
"Best case scenario is an ankle sprain but concern is definitely a broken ankle for Newhook and 8-12+ weeks out
Have been similar falls where players go into boards and are ok and other instances where slide into just the net and get a broken ankle (ex
Seth Jones)"
- Dr. Harjas Grewal
That's really interesting!
Based on Gallagher's reaction yesterday, and how quickly he admitted that Newhook would be out "for a while," it certainly seems to point toward the worst-case scenario.
According to Dr. Harjas Grewal, Newhook would therefore be out for eight to twelve weeks, or even longer.
It's a tough blow for the forward, who was having a fantastic start to the season with the Montreal Canadiens and forming an intriguing trio with
Ivan Demidov and
Oliver Kapanen.
"Two years ago in Montreal, Alex Newhook was 22 years old and he finished with 33 points in 50 games, which comes out to about 50 points over 82 games. He's capable of producing. He has all the tools: the speed, the hands, and that wrist shot while skating - it's an art, and Newhook has mastered it."
- Anthony Martineau
Alex Newhook, 24, is a 5-foot-11, 200-pound forward and a first-round pick of the Colorado Avalanche in 2019 (16th overall).
He has 12 points in 16 games this season (six goals and six assists) and 138 points in 312 career games.
Hopefully he recovers quicker than expected.
