As you probably already knew, everything indicates that the Seattle Kraken are already willing to trade forward Shane Wright.

No, the Canadiens should not go there.
I understand the reflex, because the name Shane Wright still gets people talking, and when a rumour surfaces about a former 4th overall pick, it gets Montreal buzzing.
But the idea of offering someone like Cole Caufield or Juraj Slafkovsky is simply too steep a price.
You read that right.
Caufield finished the 2024-25 season with 37 goals and 70 points in 82 games. The year before, he also put up 65 points in 82 games.
Slafkovsky, meanwhile, signed an eight-year contract in Montreal.
In 2023-24, he recorded 50 points in 82 games. In 2024-25, he followed that up with 51 points in 79 games.
You don't walk away from that to acquire a very uncertain young center.

Cole Caufield or Juraj Slafkovsky: that's the type of player the Seattle Kraken want in return for Shane Wright

"Is Seattle shopping Shane Wright? David believes they are willing to package the former fourth overall pick as they look to add a first line forward."

- Daily Faceoff
Wright is interesting, yes, and his numbers do speak for themselves. In 2024-25 with Seattle, he set career highs with 19 goals, 25 assists, and 44 points.

That's a solid step forward, especially at 21 years old.
But he's not in the same value category as Caufield today, and certainly not as Slafkovsky.
Seattle can listen, but that doesn't mean selling at a discount.
And if the Kraken truly want a first-line player, forget it immediately!
If Montreal wants to make a call, it has to start elsewhere. A draft pick, a prospect, or a piece that isn't at the core of the plan.
Offering Caufield or Slafkovsky for Wright is like paying limousine prices for a taxi. It might get you to the same place, but you'll regret it for a long time.
I understand the Kraken wanting a first-line player in return for Shane Wright, but that's a non-starter here.
