NHL Scout Believes Canadiens Hit Not One, But Two Home Runs in the 2024 Draft
Everyone is talking about Ivan Demidov, whom the Montreal Canadiens managed to draft 5th overall in 2025. It's clear that this could be an incredible home run, but there's another pick that might turn out to be a total steal.. and that's Michael Hage!
An anonymous scout from a Western Conference team revealed that Hage was ranked higher on their list than
Tij Iginla (6th by Utah),
Carter Yakemchuk (7th by Ottawa), and
Jett Luchanko (13th by Philadelphia).
Yet, the Canadiens got him at 21st overall!
Even
Tony Marinaro of BPM Sports confirmed that, according to his sources, the Canadiens were in love with Hage before the draft and were really hoping he would fall to them.
Two Home Runs for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens in the 2024 Draft?
If this information is true, it would mean that Kent Hughes managed to walk away from the first round with the equivalent of two top-10 picks.
Demidov was already a huge steal, but if Hage becomes the player that several teams saw in him, the Canadiens might have hit another home run.
Since being drafted, Hage has been performing very well, and in my opinion, he could carve out a spot in the Canadiens' top six within a few years.
He's the kind of player who could make a massive difference for the Canadiens in the future.
In 33 games with the University of Michigan this season (NCAA / Big-10), Hage has recorded 34 points in 33 games, including 13 goals.
Things are looking promising for the Montreal Canadiens!
