We talked extensively about that controversial shootout goal scored by Frank Nazar against the Montreal Canadiens on Monday night.

However, there's one specific point that hadn't been properly addressed yet.. Why wasn't Patrik Laine allowed to retake his shot?
Why didn't Martin St-Louis and the Canadiens push harder on that issue?
"We'll take your word for it that it was BEFORE Laine went to take his shot. But still, could have all been avoided if they remembered to take the puck from the net. I still don't know what the Rulebook says about Laine's attempt: why wasn't it retaken?"

That was also the last question I had on this matter.
And now, François Gagnon (RDS) has just answered that question.

François Gagnon reveals that the NHL denied permission to redo Patrik Laine's shootout attempt

So Martin St-Louis did in fact request it!
"Patrik Laine was sent out as the second shooter by Martin St-Louis, and the score was still 0-0 according to everyone, even though the Hawks were ahead 1-0.
The Habs requested to retake the second shot after the necessary pause to clarify the confusion.

Permission was denied."

- François Gagnon

Unbelievable.. The rule is crystal clear!
At the very least, that permission should have been granted to the Montreal Canadiens!
This verdict is truly disappointing.
This isn't over!
