Martin St-Louis calls out a reporter after postgame question about Dobes

On Monday, the Canadiens obviously won 6-3 at the Bell Centre, and things got a bit heated afterward during the press conferences.

It was 3-3 before the Canadiens scored three times in the third period. The Canucks, last in the overall standings, suffered a seventh straight loss and still have not won a game in 2026.

In the win, Alexandre Carrier recorded a rare sequence in the second period. He scored two goals in just 20 seconds, a direct nod to the Canadiens' history books.

On the other side, Ivan Demidov picked up three assists, while Juraj Slafkovsky added a goal and two assists. Mike Matheson also struck early in the third period, at a moment when the crowd was fully engaged.

After the game, attention shifted to Jakub Dobes, and not just because of the win. A journalist asked him how he would react if the Canadiens sent him down to Laval.

Dobes did not beat around the bush and said he would not understand such a decision. He also reiterated that he wants to prove he belongs.

When the comment was brought back to Martin St-Louis during the press conference, the head coach did not like it. He didn't like it at all!

He mainly criticized the question, asked in the heat of the postgame moment, to a goaltender who had just come out of an emotional game. Clear message: St-Louis is protecting his player and wants to keep the locker room away from the noise.

The situation in goal remains a hot topic nonetheless.

Dobes was drafted in the 5th round, 136th overall, in 2020, and he stands 6-foot-4, 215 pounds. In 2024-2025, he played 16 games with the Montreal Canadiens, posting a 7-4-3 record, a 2.74 goals-against average, and a .909 save percentage, along with one shutout.
