Following recent developments in the KHL involving Evgeny Kuznetsov, an important statement from Kent Hughes is circulating.
Let's recall that SKA, Ivan Demidov's team in the KHL, will add forward Evgeny Kuznetsov to their roster, with Kuznetsov signing a four-year contract with them.
SKA will undoubtedly prefer to play Kuznetsov, who will be with them long-term, over Ivan Demidov, who will leave them in less than a year.
Ivan Demidov released by SKA and signed by the Canadiens sooner than expected?
This is what several analysts are monitoring.
With Kuznetsov's arrival in Saint Petersburg, Ivan Demidov may have just lost his place on their roster.
«Demidov... Soon?» - HFTV
There definitely seems to be hope, and it seems increasingly plausible that we could see him land in North America as early as next fall.
To that effect, a major statement from Kent Hughes has resurfaced.
Kent Hughes, after the NHL draft, regarding Ivan Demidov and the KHL:
«This coming season, he is under contract in Saint Petersburg.. If he plays in the KHL, it's a great environment for him for a year.. If he's not in the KHL, we have to see what the options are»
- Via HabsOnReddit
So, if Ivan Demidov does not make SKA's starting lineup, expect Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens to evaluate their options and try to bring him here sooner than expected.
To be continued!
And you, would you like to see Ivan Demidov in North America as early as next fall?
Let's also recall this from Demidov:
We love it!
Ivan Demidov, 18 years old, 6 feet 1 inch and 192 pounds, was the 5th overall pick for the Canadiens in 2024. He amassed 60 points in 30 games last season in the MHL.
