As we reported yesterday, Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens have announced the signing of center Joe Veleno.

Joe Veleno is also a former client of Kent Hughes: another forward signs in Montreal who used to be represented by the GM

It's starting to become a recurring theme for Hughes, and it's perfectly natural to want to work with familiar people. But yes, the Canadiens' general manager has hired another one of his former clients by signing Veleno.
"My story on Canadiens GM Kent Hughes taking a chance on a former client from his days as a player agent by signing Montreal native Joe Veleno to one-year, US$900,000 contract."

- Stu Cowan
I'm really looking forward to seeing what Veleno can bring to Montreal. He's always had strong potential but has struggled to establish himself as a solid NHL center.
One thing's for sure - the fact that he's a left-handed center could really help him land a spot on Martin St-Louis' roster this fall.
It'll be up to him to earn a position, competing against the likes of Owen Beck, Joshua Roy, Oliver Kapanen, and others - whether at center or on the wing.
