During his weekly press conference, Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes revealed an interesting piece of information about Jacob Fowler.
In comments that were picked up widely, the GM admitted that Fowler was recalled much earlier than planned.
The original idea was a more gradual path, with plenty of time and games with the Laval Rocket before seeing him regularly with the big club.
Hughes also dropped a line that stands out, because it says everything without saying too much.
He mentioned that, mentally, Fowler does not look like a young goaltender and that he looks like an NHL goalie.
He described him as very mature, with an approach that stands out when the pressure rises.
Kent Hughes confirms there was a major change of plan with Jacob Fowler
The initial plan truly was not to recall him so quickly.
What makes the situation even more intriguing is that Fowler already has a real track record in the NHL.
He has already recorded a shutout, and that carries a lot of weight in the conversation, especially given how calm and impressive he looks in his crease.
When a goalie comes in and delivers that kind of moment early, expectations rise quickly, even if the organization is trying to keep both feet on the ground.
It is also worth recalling that Fowler was drafted 69th overall in 2023. He was born on November 24, 2004, and he already finds himself at the center of a shifting situation in net.
One thing is certain: when Kent Hughes speaks like this publicly, it really gives the impression that Fowler could be in the NHL for good.
Kent Hughes on Fowler:
"This summer, the plan was for him to spend the season in the American Hockey League.
Mentally, in terms of his approach, he doesn't look like a young player at all."

It bodes well for the rest of the season.
