Thursday night, we got an unexpected announcement from the Montreal Canadiens before the game.
Mike Matheson did not play on Thursday, even though the Canadiens had confirmed earlier in the day that he would be in uniform against the Carolina Hurricanes.
That said, we have some more positive information today.

That is excellent news.
Nothing was presented as a concrete return date, obviously, but the tone was clear. In the locker room, there was talk of a return drawing closer.
On Thursday, the Montreal Canadiens still won 7-5 against the Carolina Hurricanes. Martin St-Louis' squad extended its streak to seven games with at least one point.
Matheson is 31 years old, and he is definitely noticed when he's missing from the lineup. This season, he is averaging 24:54 per game.
His contract has also generated a lot of discussion, as he signed a five-year extension worth $30 million.
Against Carolina, Dobes did the job with 20 saves. The Habs also scored seven goals, with contributions spread throughout the lineup.
If Matheson returns quickly, it will especially ease the uncertainty surrounding his upper-body injury.
Speaking of injuries, it's also worth noting that Josh Anderson left yesterday's game against the Hurricanes and did not return. We will provide an update as soon as more information becomes available.
