We have an announcement and an intriguing clue, live from the Bell Centre, for the Montreal Canadiens.
Just a few hours before Monday night's game against the Vancouver Canucks, all signs point to young goaltender Jakub Dobes getting the start.
Additionally, the Montreal Canadiens have just announced a press conference with head coach Martin St-Louis scheduled for 11:00 a.m., where a final confirmation is expected.
Jakub Dobes expected to start against Canucks
The Habs are on the ice Monday morning, and the goaltending situation is already generating plenty of discussion.
The Canadiens are holding a morning skate, and Martin St-Louis is expected to speak around 11:00 a.m., along with player media availabilities.
This type of morning often serves as a barometer. Earlier today, Eric Engels wrote on X that Dobes was going through the starter's routine.
We're now waiting to hear what Martin St-Louis says at the podium, because nothing is confirmed until the coach makes the final call.
Statistically, Dobes has appeared in 21 games in 2025-26, posting a 13-5-3 record. He also carries a 3.01 goals-against average and a .889 save percentage.
In his NHL career, he has played 37 games, earning 20 wins, with a 2.90 goals-against average and a .898 save percentage.
Last season with the Canadiens, he appeared in 16 games and posted a 7-4-3 record. He also registered a 2.74 goals-against average, a .909 save percentage, and one shutout.
If the Canadiens send him back between the pipes Monday night, it won't be a whim-it will be a deliberate decision and a well-earned fresh start for him.
