Recently, Pierre McGuire described him as a superstar, while Ryan Whitney compared him to none other than Dominik Hasek. The young goalie, who will likely be in his final year in the NCAA, has a lot to prove in showing that he is the man for the job.
While waiting to see him in a Canadiens uniform, Fowler is quietly preparing for his transition to professional hockey. He's even taken proactive steps to ensure he's ready when the time comes to join Laval or Montreal.
In a recent interview with Marco D'Amico for the site Responsible Gambling, the American goalie revealed that he has already started French lessons, a decision that will surely please Canadiens fans. His teacher is none other than Gabe Perreault, his teammate at Boston University and son of former Canadiens player Yanic Perreault.
Responsible Gambling - Canadiens prospect Jacob Fowler "learning French is a goal of mine"
Fowler has roots in Quebec, with a lot of family in Montreal and the Quebec City area. He's doing it not just for the fans but also for his family.
Last season, Fowler posted a record of 32-6-1 with a 2.14 GAA, a .926 save percentage, and three shutouts with Boston College. He also reached the Frozen Four final, where they lost to the Denver Pioneers.
It will be interesting to see what he can achieve in the 2024-2025 season.
With NCAA prospects, there's always the risk of them pulling an Adam Fox and refusing to sign with their drafting team, but in Fowler's case, his mind is made up.
He's going to sign with the Canadiens, and we love it!
