The rumor had been circulating for a while, but it has just been officially confirmed by David Savard in a press conference.

It's over for him.
He will retire as soon as the Montreal Canadiens' playoff run comes to an end, and that's not all, he also revealed that he informed Kent Hughes and the Canadiens' management of his decision several weeks ago.

David Savard just announced his NHL retirement, but he also confirmed he'll play through the Canadiens' entire playoff run

Savard can be extremely proud of his NHL career.
At age 34, Savard has 15 points in 75 games this season, along with 36 penalty minutes and a -8 plus-minus rating.
He continues to lead the league in blocked shots and serves as a great example and leader for younger players.
Over his NHL career, Savard has recorded 242 points in 870 games (including 54 goals) with 467 penalty minutes.
He also has 57 games of playoff experience and a Stanley Cup championship.
